Otto, NC - Vacation 2013-2014

Chapter 29

We left Jacksonville around 9am on Friday, December 20, 2013, and got to our cabin in Otto about 5:30 pm. We listened to Pandora and the time went quickly. I'm not much for long drives anymore. I get bored and tired. Karen's 2012 Subaru Forester ran like a champ. We unloaded what we needed, opened up the cabin, and lit a fire. Karen turned off the water drains and turned on the water and pump. When the hot water heater tanks filled, she turned on the circuit breaker for them. An hour or so later we took hot showers. Not long after we cozied up in the loft over the kitchen and called it a night.

Our routine consisted of gathering firewood, shopping, making small repairs, reading, sleeping, streaming football games, I put a back and a bottom on a wooden toy chest I found on the side of the road in Dolphin Cove. I rubbed it down with linseed oil and it turned out good. I'm going to keep my music and guitar related items in it. It sits by the front door. I put up a lat pull down and a pull up bar on the back porch.

I put fresh gas and a fuel filter on our Subaru generator and fired it off. We used the gas grill a couple of times for supper.
We went on a New Year's Day hike with a local hiking club and had blackeyed peas et all afterward with them. Anna, Eddie, Dylan, and Daniel visited us on Sunday, the 29th. Anna brought me a nice bottle of Patron. We shot firearms and bows and arrows off the porch, as it was rainy. We brought the turtles (5) with us and they seemed to be ok. Terry got after Neal, so we had to put him in the kiddie tank. We looked at watering troughs at Tractor Supply for them to swim in. I walked down and up the driveway almost every day and worked out with hand weights.
